About Early Expecting

Welcome to Early Expecting — I’m So Glad You’re Here

My name is Dr. Andrea Foster, and I’m a board-certified OB-GYN with over 15 years of clinical experience caring for women through every stage of their reproductive lives. I completed my residency at Johns Hopkins and have since practiced in both large academic medical centers and small community clinics, giving me the privilege of guiding thousands of patients through the earliest, most uncertain days of pregnancy.

When you first suspect you might be pregnant, the mix of hope, anxiety, and questions can feel overwhelming. I’ve seen that moment countless times in my office, and I’ve always believed that clear, compassionate information is the best medicine I can offer. That’s why I started Early Expecting — to be the steady voice and reliable resource I wish every woman had from that very first sign.

This site is built on one simple promise: no gimmicks, no personal stories dressed up as medical fact, no product recommendations. Just evidence-based answers grounded in the latest guidance from the FDA and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). Every article you read here is written by me, personally. I don’t use AI, ghostwriters, or recycled content. When I explain early pregnancy symptoms, how to read a pregnancy test, or what to expect in the first weeks after a positive result, I’m drawing on published research — including my own studies on early symptom patterns — and translating it into plain, warm language the same way I would if you were sitting across from me in my exam room.

I also serve on the education committee of my regional ACOG chapter, where I help develop patient education resources. That work has sharpened my focus on making medical information not just accurate, but genuinely useful and easy to act on. Early Expecting reflects that mission: to empower you with trustworthy knowledge so you can move forward with confidence.

Here you’ll find clear guidance on recognizing early pregnancy symptoms, understanding the different types of pregnancy tests and when to take them, what those first prenatal appointments look like, how to manage the emotional rollercoaster, and how to care for your body in these early weeks. I don’t shy away from the hard questions, and I always tell you what the evidence says — even when the answer is “we don’t know yet.”

Thank you for trusting me to be part of this incredibly personal journey. Whatever you’re feeling right now, you’re not alone. Let’s take this one step at a time, together.

Warmly, Dr. Andrea Foster
